Belly Dance Beginner Class at New Acropolis
Nine souls got together to seek more knowledge on this ancient dance. We breathe. Stretching and letting our blood flow slowly we nourish our lungs.
Inhale. Hold that pain, that anguish, that tear. Exhale it all out.
We go over some basics. I watch. Women are truly amazing at their capacity to learn and doubt themselves. We dance freely. We dance in sequence, to the front, to the back, to the side and in hip circles.
We build our so special choreography. Our goal. We dance to the Goddess Isis. All the beauty.
We end in a sisterhood circle of dance. We see each other. We admire our beauty. We join. We watch. We love. Women.
Armamos nuestra coreografia tan especial. Nuestra meta. Le bailamos a la Diosa Isis. Toda la belleza.
Terminamos en un circulo de hermandad de baile. Nos miramos. Admiramos nuestra belleza. Participamos. Miramos. Amamos. Mujer.

Some history
Year 2004
I lived in Harlem and the YMCA (3 blocks away) offered a bellydance class. I had always been curious about this form of dance so I went to a class. The instructor, Arianna Hayima AlTiye, more than fullfilled my expectations. She was the reason why I continued going religiously every week. Her whole philosophy not only about dance but about life taught me that women are powerful in many ways we sometimes do not even know.
After just a few months, Arianna invited her students to perform at Lafayette Grill. Pictures are from that performance.
Since our move to Guatemala, a lot of the NY stuff stayed behind including pictures, clothing, dancing stick, hip belts, etc. My bellydance history started in 2004 but continued in different ways in NY.
After my most recent visit to NY and revisit to Arianna, New Acropolis (in Guatemala) invited me to become an instructor and I decided to take on the challenge. I feel blessed to be able to allow my soul to explore all the divine movements that through the body one can master. I have yet to achieve many other dance goals but in the meantime I can work side by side with other souls that want to dance...just simply dance with the soul.
